Bike and Sidecar.

A 1/3rd scale Steampunk bike and sidecar.

This is another of my personal projects building a 1/3rd scale fictitious bike. To be different, I went with a sidecar and lots of timber to give it a Steampunk look. I loved using actual timber for the structure.

The main frame is wood with steel pins running through it. A lot of time is spent getting sizes right, so wheels, seats etc are made first so I can make the bike to fit. The theme is ‘kitbash’ so the seats are old ejector seats.

The main cowl is timber covered in thin bendy ply. The ply looks great when it is stained and scales well with the model. The cowl is then covered in lots of styrene strip and metal parts from old junk.

The model looks great parked out in the sun. I wanted the dash to be full of old large dials and levers and foot peddles. A steering wheel seemed a better fit for this than a handlebar.

The dials were turned in styrene and assembled with printed art and a clear acetate. The steering wheel was bent up out of aluminium and covered in leather strap. The underneath was detailed with plastic parts from old toys.

The seats were all made out of wood and detailed with styrene and kit parts. These things always look good when dressed with small metal parts from old cameras and computers, then given a dirty wash.

It took a while to get the back of the bike to a point I was happy with. Keeping it simple was the best choice. The passenger section is made to look like some sort of generator to power the gun.

In Steampunk style, the gun was made from brass and wood with plastic parts for detail. Again, lots of metal parts finish it off. The cowl is wood to look like the front of a small aircraft or something.
